luke fon fabre

there is only one luke to him

Luke Guy has a very special relationship with Luke fon Fabre - whether your preference leans toward the romantic or platonic. Since the very beginning of Luke's birth, Guy has been there to take care of him and raise him. Of course, the young Guy (then only 11) didn't have the sort of experience one would need to properly raise a child and thus, along with some other factors, Luke turned out a spoiled and ignorant brat. If you've ever watched Star Wars, think of it like Obi Wan raising Anakin - both him and Guy were unprepared for the task of raising someone else. Luckily for Guy, Luke doesn't end up falling to the dark side. ^^; He does, however, come to grips with his ignorance and arrogance after the fall of Akzeriuth and decides to change himself for the better. Guy vows to help in this, in part to make up for his part in Luke's upbringing and also because he is Luke's best friend - for life.

DEFINING MOMENT: ARAMIS SPRINGS
Probably the most defining moment in Guy's relationship with Luke is Aramis Springs, after Luke regains control of his body from Asch. It also foreshadows another time when Guy will end up waiting for Luke to come back (Hint: End of the game :P). Guy meets Luke & Tear inside the cave at the Springs and the following conversation ensues:

** denotes thoughts, () denotes an emotion bubble

Guy: It's about time you showed up, Luke.
Luke: (!)
Guy: Hey, you cut your hair. Nice, clean cut... Looks good.
Luke: *It's just like I saw when I was connected with Asch! Guy waited for me...* Guy! ...
Guy: Huh? What is it?
Luke: I... I'm not Luke...
Guy: Jeez, I don't need you talking like Asch, too.
Luke: But... I'm a replica...
Guy: So? That guy doesn't like to be called Luke, anyway. I say take it.
Luke: "Take it"? Heh heh, you haven't changed a bit.
Guy: You sure have, though. You don't have to put yourself down so much.
Luke: I'm not! It's just...
Guy: Sure you are. Who cares about names at this point? You could at least look happy to see me, after I went to the trouble of waiting here for you.
Luke: ...You're right. Thanks.
Guy: (!) Luke said thanks?!
Tear: He says he's going to change.

Luke then asks him why he waited for him, to which Guy replies that they are friends (and that's what friends do).

Guy: We're friends, right? Oh, wait, I'm your servant. Sorry.

Luke then replies that he is not Guy's master because he (Luke) is just Asch's replica. Guy states that he wasn't being friendly towards Luke only because he was his master. To Guy, there is only one Luke...and that is the Luke that is standing before him.

Guy: You're you, and Asch is Asch. Replica or whatever, you're real to me.

The reason Guy believes this lies in their time spent together. It was right after Luke was born (returned from being kidnapped) when Guy asked him if it was hard not having any memory of the past. Luke replied that "You can't go forward if you keep looking back" - bascially saying he didn't need a past. This impressed Guy beyond words. Ever since coming to the manor as a war orphan, Guy had been obsessing about his own past & hatred. Luke's insight might have been the catalyst that caused Guy to try to move beyond his past hatred for the Fabre household and one of the reasons why Guy became friends with Luke in the first place. Guy admired Luke's freedom and desired to be as free of the past as he was.

RELATIONSHIP POTENTIAL: JUST FRIENDS? LOVERS?
This is the part where Guy's romantic (or otherwise) potential with Luke is explored. Expect to come across lots of my opinions on the matter.

JUST FRIENDS: No one can deny Guy's and Luke's friendship, but is it simply that? Friendship? Some believe so since there isn't any explicit "canon" examples to suggest otherwise. Guy states on many occasions that he loves women (& and loves to look at them), leading many to believe that he is indeed, heterosexual.

LOVERS: Guy's relationship with Luke can also be taken as something more than friendship. His (Guy's) gynophobia provides an interesting scenerio and one which could provide "evidence" that Guy is homosexual. Gynophobia is a fear of women and because of this fear, Guy prefers males over females for lovers. Luke is a believable partner for Guy based on his closeness to Guy and the fact that it's overwhelmingly obvious that Guy cares a lot about him. They are already close friends so it doesn't take a big stretch of imagination to pair the two together.
