the ancient art of swordplayGuy's artes are from of the Sigmund-style school of swordplay which is a branch of the popular Albert-style. It is only practiced by those hailing
from House Gardios or those associated with said house. As such, it was imperative that the origin's of Guy's sword skills were never discovered by any of the Kimlascan higher-ups (ie. Duke Fabre). This was somewhat easy to accomplish
because the similairity to the Albert-style of swordmanship which Luke (and presumably, other Kimlascans) use.THE HISTORY OF THE STYLE
The founder of the style, Sigmund, was a
student of Fleil Albert and learned the sword from him. As one of the Arcane Arts Councilmen explain:
"To protect Yulia and Albert and act as their advance guard, he improved upon what he learned, creating the Sigmund style." He goes on to further state that Sigmund, fearing that if the style became popular it would publicize the weakness of the
Albert style, decreed that the style be handed down orally; thus, bringing us to the Arcane Arts Council itself.THE ARCANE ARTES COUNCIL
The Arcane Arts Council were founded by masters of the Sigmund-style in order to teach further generations the style. Furthermore, no "outsiders" (basically, anyone not from House Gardios) are allowed to know the details of the style. At present, the members of the Arcane Artes Council
are scattered throughout the world. This was probably most likely due to the Hod War (it was unknown whether refugees from Hod would be persecuted if found out). Guy was asked to find all the members and fill up the Hod Registry by Gee (one of the members himself).

A number of the artes that are part of the Sigmund-style are
carry-overs from previous Tales of games. Here is a list of the artes that appear in other games as well as the people who use them. Note: I've only played Tales of Phantasia and Symphonia besides
